Lawyer Madness: Vote for your Law School!
:
In the spirit of March Madness, we decided to kick off our own competition among law schools with ‘Avvo’s Lawyer Madness‘. In this tournament pool, bracketology strategies, seeds, strength of schedule and player-match ups are thrown out the window. Instead, it’s YOUR VOTE that will keep your law school alive.
But if the love of your school isn’t enough, lawyers with degrees from the winning law school will receive Avvo Pro for 3-months free!

We’ve set up the brackets and timetable to mirror the men’s NCAA basketball tournament. To move your school to the next round simply place your vote, as many times as you’d like, and tell others to do the same! Each round, check back to see who advanced, and then place your votes again.
IMPORTANT: We removed the match-ups in which neither college has a law school, and any college matched up against one without a law school (in italics), will automatically advance. But be sure to cast your votes anyway, because they will count toward the next round. Hooray!
Finally, if your law school is not here – let us know! Enough votes could get them into the competition. Nominate your school!
OK, now vote!!

GREAT typo for Cal’s law school LOL. And fun brackets as well, in some cases.

Thanks for letting me know, Gary!

Where’s Tulane?

Ohio University does not have a law school. Ohio State and Ohio Northern, but not OU. But they do drink green beer.

Hey, where are the U of MN Golden Gophers?

So only alumni of law schools affiliated with a school in the tournament have a chance at the prize. Good clean fun or invidious discrimination? Shouldn’t alumni whose schools did not make the tournament be viewed as oppressed and therefore treated as a suspect class? 50 imaginary points left on this question.

I am a lawyer registered in Florida, and you don’t have my name in your list of lawyers. Aren’t you including members of the Florida Bar?

Sam Houston Law? It doesn’t exist, so it would be all the more hilarious were it to win your competition. You may have meant to refer to University of Houston Law Center.

I have asked twice that Harvard Law School (NOT Harvard University Law School, which is not its name) be included. I still do not see it. Karen

@Scrills – We’ve taken the same teams as are in the NCAA men’s tournament, and so I realize Sam Houston does not have a law school. Baylor will automatically advance to the next round – although I agree it would be funny if Sam Houston did end up getting a lot of votes :)
@Karen – Thanks for voting in Harvard. If there are enough people requesting to add it in the pool, we’ll include Harvard in Round 2. Stay tuned!
Thanks,
Megan

I agree with Lara. Tulane is a12th seed in the Women’s NCAA tournament.
March 17th, 2010 at 1:12 pm
@Brian – MN is there, in the West Region!
@Lara – Tulane did not make the men’s tournament – just the women’s this year – and that’s the brackets we’re going with. But feel free to write in Tulane and perhaps enough votes can get them in!

What — no University of Michigan Law school? Granted UofM’s basketball team is the pits, but does that mean my JD is no good now? Bummer :)

How about the University of Illinois College of Law? Sure IlliniI basketball team is in a “re-building” year, but the law school is ranked far much better than most on the bracket list….that should count for something!!

Where is William Mitchell College of Law, Minnesota ?

I have a Profile on AVVO and am licensed in FL and NY, but cannot find myself in a search using the search tool at the top of this blog. Did you ever add Harvard Law School to the Lawyer Madness list? Karen
April 8th, 2010 at 4:56 pm
Karen –
You won’t find your Avvo profile searching the Avvo Blog, because profiles are only found on our main website. You need to go to Avvo.com to find your profile.
And I am sorry that Harvard did not make it in Avvo Lawyer Madness, but it simply did not get as many votes as the other law schools did, and as a result did not move forward in the rounds.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Megan
