This summer we were sitting around the lunch table and someone said, “I wonder where the top Avvo-rated lawyers went to law school.” Intrigued (and being backed by one of the largest databases of legal information in the country), we ran a couple of queries and voila . . . we suddenly had a fascinating glimpse into how the different law schools stacked up. And now we offer that glimpse to you!

As a preview, I will say “congrats” to Yale and “sorry” to Florida Coastal School of Law.

This portion of the site is a work in process. We will be building this out over time, but even today you are able to look up your school and see all of its Avvo statistics. Here the profile for my alma mater George Washington Law School. It is very fun data to muck-around in.

I’m proud to announce some cool new changes to the Avvo marketplace:

First, we have redesigned our Avvo Profile to be one page, rather than an “Overview” page backed-up by tabs. Why the change? Well, as part of our ongoing effort to better understand user behavior on our site, we learned that people were not always discovering information on the tabs. By putting a lawyer’s profile all on one page, users must simply scroll down the page rather than click multiple tabs. Early feedback has been great, but we would love to hear yours. Personally, I think it looks amazing – kudos to the Avvo development and design teams.

Second, you will notice new, Avvo-generated advertising throughout the site. In the photo above it is the green box next to the profile, in the “C” column. We have always had Google ads on the site, but we are starting to test our own to understand which ads work best where, etc. We intend to roll-our our fully baked advertising platform in the first quarter of 2009.

Speaking of Avvo advertising, if you are interested in purchasing any, please let us know. We may even be able to get you in the test this quarter. “Of course I am interested,” you say.
