I’ve Been “Memed”
Avvo Advisor and popular blogger J. Craig Williams tagged me with a meme of non-law blogs, asking me to write about my top-five favorites. Admittedly, I had to look up what a “meme” was before I could decide how to proceed, but that is beside the point.
So without further ado, here are my favorites in no particular order. Not surprisingly, they are all tech- and venture-related. Oh, the narrow life I lead . . .
TechCrunch: This is a great blog for staying on top of happenings in the technology world. The writing of Founder/Editor Michael Arrington and their other contributors is always insightful and worth an RSS feed.
VentureBeat: Venturebeat is a lot like TechCrunch, just a little more venture and a little less tech (and, of course, one beats while the other crunches). Still it is a great way to keep up with the happenings down in the Valley and beyond. I will also always love them due to their great article on Avvo, entitled, “Avvo: get advice from lawyers using Web 2.0 techniques.”
Mossblog: Back in my Expedia days, I started reading Walt Mossberg’s column in the Wall Street Journal. We were always trying to get him to say something anything about Expedia. Avvo PR has yet to similarly throw itself at Walt because we know it is only a matter of time before word-of-mouth introduces him to our amazing website. In the meantime, Walt’s blog is still a great place to read his reviews of the latest “cool” tech offerings. He really panned Google’s new “Chrome” browser by the way, which was surprising to me. I think it is pretty cool.
John Cook’s Venture Blog: Up here in lil’ ol’ Seattle, we have our own gossip forums relating to venture and technology. One of the more widely read is John Cook’s Venture Blog as part of the Seattle Post Intelligencer website. Interestingly, just a week or so ago, John announced that he was leaving the Seattle PI to start his own blog ala TechCrunch and VentureBeat. Sign up to be notified when the new site launches. In the meantime, you can read John’s musings (along with Todd Bishop) at www.wherearejohnandtodd.com.
Zillow Blog: I have to list the Zillow Blog because it was started by Avvo Board member Rich Barton and it is a great blog if you are interested in real estate. Oddly, a lot of people are interested in real estate lately . . .
Following Craig’s lead (and possibly age-old meme protocol), I would like to tag the following bloggers to share their own favorite non-law blogs.
Carolyn Elefant
Sheryl Sisk Schelin
Collette Vogel
Happy Meme-ing . . .

Oh, Mark, Mark, Mark.
Now you’ve done it. FORCED me to get off my butt and finish up the TIS makeover so I can participate in a meme. I’ll remember this.
It’ll be a few days but … congrats. In one post, you’ve managed to do what a handful of reader emails and my own overdeveloped addiction to crisis haven’t.

Does anyone know the origins of the word ‘meme?’ I am just curious as I follow along this conversation. It sounds kind of french to me? What is the meaning and how is it linked to social networking (i.e. blogging, bookmarks, etc.)
