Seattle Law Blogger Meet-up
Last night I attended a get together of Seattle area law bloggers, put on by Mike Atkins, who writes the Seattle Trademark Lawyer Blog. It was hosted at Graham and Dunn who unequivocally have the best legal offices in Seattle, on the tip of pier 70 in Elliott Bay. The discussion centered around the effectiveness and benefits of blogging with inevitable forays into technology and the legal implications of lawyers who blog. My biggest take-away is that blogging is an effective source not only for finding new clients, but also for demonstrating a level of public expertise and thus sealing the deal with hot prospects. Further, blogs are equally effective for consumer facing lawyers as well as those who serve businesses. The Godfather of Legal Blogging, Kevin O’Keefe at lexBlog has known this for years, if you are on the fence about blogging as a marketing tool, give him a call.
I had a chance to chat with Sarah Bird, from SEOMoz who should be guest blogging here some time soon. Super-smart Dan Harris of the very successful China Law Blog talked for me at length about blogging, the importance of reputation management for lawyers and his take on Avvo. Jill Pugh, who writes the Employment Law Blog promised to claim her profile on Avvo. I was disappointed to miss chatting with Eric Chiappinelli, Associate Dean of the Seattle University School of Law who also writes the Business Entities Online blog.

Conrad, I really enjoyed meeting you at the “meet up” - you are a great emissary for Avvo. True to my word, I have claimed my profile, and now need to edit and update it. I have a better attitude toward the site after meeting you and your colleague last night.

Thanks, Conrad. I, too, am sorry we weren’t able to connect. I chatted a bit with your colleague Erin, though. Until Mike’s meet up I hadn’t been aware of your blog (though I knew of Avvo). Now I’ll be a regular reader.
Best regards,
Eric
